چکیده

Takeya, Kenji (Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan), Kazuhito Hisatsune, and Yasuko Inoue. Mycobacterial cell walls. II. Chemical composition of the "basal layer." J. Bacteriol. 85:24-30. 1963.-Chemical composition of the "basal layer" of the mycobacterial cell wall was determined. The layer contained 35% amino acids, 41.5% reducing sugars (mainly composed of arabinose and galactose), 13.8% amino sugars (glucosamine and muramic acid, 2:1), and 7.7% lipid. The main amino acids were alanine, glutamic acid, and diaminopimelic acid. Their molar ratio was approximately 2:2:1. The main difference in chemical composition between the cell wall and the basal layer was found in lipid content. According to the chemical composition, the basal layer resembles the walls of gram-positive bacteria, while the mycobacterial cell wall resembles the walls of gram-negative bacteria. The basal layer was thoroughly disintegrated by lysozyme digestion, and was considered to be an inner layer of the wall, conferring shape and rigidity on the mycobacterial cell wall.

Basal cell carcinoma superimposed on an old scar of localized cutaneous Leishmaniasis: A case report

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the skin, which originates from the basal cell layer of the skin. It is more common in white race with skin types I and II. Some predisposing factors are sunlight, ionizing radiation, arsenic salts, PUVA and scar. We present a case of BCC, which appeared over an old scar of localized cutaneous leishmaniasis in a 49-year-old woman.

Chemical and serological relationships between the heteropolysaccharides of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium kansasii.

The identity of a heteropolysaccharide from cell walls of Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra with Seibert's tuberculopolysaccharide I was demonstrated by thin-layer chromatography, chemical analysis, and antigenic tests. The polysaccharide of M. kansasii was shown to be identical with that of M. tuberculosis. Defatted cells were disintegrated by ultrasonic treatment in the presence of glass beads...

Structure, function and biogenesis of the mycobacterial cell wall.

Structure of the mycobacterial cell wall Present-day understanding of the architecture of the mycobacterial cell wall arises from excellent electron-microscopic studies which demonstrate alternating zones of electron density and transparency almost reminiscent of Gram-negative cell walls and clearly pointing to a substantial lipid barrier [l]. This evidence is in accord with the chemical models...

The mycobacterial cell wall.

The Mycobacterial cell wall contains a peptidoglycan—glycolipid complex and various more or less defined glycolipid fractions. The detailed chemical structure of the peptidoglycan and the glycolipid (a mycolate of an arabinogalactan) is discussed. Figure 4 shows a tentative formula for a 'monomer' of the cell wall and Figure 6 depicts a possible 'decamer.' Then the chemistry of three glycolipid...
